Il giardino dell’amore
Sono andato nel giardino dell’amore,
E ho visto ciò che non avevo mai visto;
Una cappella era costruita nel mezzo
Nel giardino dove di solito giocavo.
E i cancelli della cappella erano chiusi,
E “Tu non devi” era scritto sulla porta.
Così mi voltai dal giardino dell’amore
Che produceva molti fiori colorati.
E io ho visto che nel campo c’era una tomba,
E sulle pietre tombali c’erano fiori;
E preti in tonache nere stavano camminando intorno,
E legava con rovi i miei sogni e desideri.
The Garden of Love
I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen;
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.
And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
And ‘Thou shalt not’ writ over the door;
So I turned to the Garden of Love
That so many sweet flowers bore.
And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tombstones where flowers should be;
And priests in black gowns were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars my joys and desires.
