Quando sarai propenso a svalutarmi

Quando sarai propenso a svalutarmi
e metterai i miei meriti alla berlina,
combatterò dalla tua parte contro di me
e ti mostrerò giusto, benché tu sia spergiuro.
Sono così esperto della mia indegnità
che a tuo favore posso imbastire una storia
di colpe nascoste, di cui mi sarei macchiato,
sicché mollandomi acquisterai più gloria:
così facendo sarò anch’io vincitore,
perché i pensieri d’amore tanto ho inchinato a te
che le ferite che io provoco a me stesso
avvantaggiandoti, mi danno un doppio vantaggio.
Tale è il mio amore, ti appartengo al punto
che per darti ragione mi assumerò ogni torto.
