Firenze, 23 aprile 2017 – Ricordando il grande William Shakespeare nato presumibilmente a Stratford-upon-Avon il 23 aprile 1564 (la cosa però non è certa, e il 23 aprile è la festa di San Giorgio, patrono d’Inghilterra). E’ sicura invece la data della sua morte, avvenuta ancora a Stratford-upon-Avon il 23 aprile 1616.

dal soave ornamento che la virtù le dona.
Bella la rosa appare, ma più bella si tiene
per quel dolce profumo che a lei dentro vive.
Rose canine han fiamma tanto intensa
quanto la profumata tinta delle rose,
stanno su eguali spine, sì gaiamente giocano
quando alito d’estate schiude quei bocci ascosi.
Ma poi che il loro pregio sta solo in apparire
non corteggiate vivono, e trascurate avvizzano,
muoiono per sé sole. Non così soavi rose,
di lor morte soave, i profumi soavissimi son tratti.
In tal modo di te, bello adorabile giovane,
come quella svanisca, distilla il mio verso la virtù.
